The dot SE ccTLD was established in 1986 and delegated to Sweden. During the first years after its establishment, the registration process was quite restrictive, so a very low number of domain names were ordered. Persons were permitted to get solely one domain under .PP.SE (“pp” stands for “private person”). Local presence was a prerequisite, i.e. only Swedish individuals, business entities and organizations could book a .SE domain. In 2003, however, the registration process was loosened a lot and, as a result, the number of dot SE domains has been rising each year.
